Self Made Psychology is seeking 1–2 compassionate, collaborative, and self-driven postdoctoral fellows to join our unique, community-rooted group practice in Brooklyn. Founded in 2024, our practice is led by queer, trans, and neurodivergent psychologists and is deeply committed to radically affirming, trauma-informed, and identity-centered care.
This one-year, full-time fellowship is designed to support fellows in completing their New York State postdoctoral hours while cultivating clinical depth, leadership skills, and creative contributions to the field.
About the Role:
This fellowship is ideal for early-career clinicians who are intentionally shaping their professional identity at the intersection of clinical excellence, community impact, and creative leadership. We’re looking for ambitious postdocs who are:
- Eager to cultivate deep clinical expertise with LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent clients
- Motivated to grow not only as clinicians, but also as educators, writers, researchers, community leaders & advocates
- Seeking mentorship, collaboration, and support to build a sustainable career grounded in skill and authenticity
Core ResponsibilitiesClinical Services / Commitments
- Provide 10-20 clinical hours weekly (individuals, couples, families, groups, and/or evaluations)
- Attend weekly individual and group supervision, monthly staff meetings
- Conduct evaluations for ASD, ADHD, and gender-affirming care
- Collaborate to create and launch new services rooted in your interests
Research, Writing & Community Education
- Co-create clinical content (e.g., books for kids on gender, TGNB guides, clinical articles)
- Develop practice-based resources and toolkits
- Collaborate on writing and editing journal article & training materials
- Design and facilitate workshops and trainings for schools, community organizations and businesses
Practice Culture & Environment
- Led by queer, trans, and neurodivergent psychologists
- Values: authenticity, accessibility, curiosity, and creativity
- Clients include youth, adults, couples, and families — many identify as LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent, or both
- Work from one or both of our Brooklyn offices (1-2 days per week, hybrid schedule optional):- Brooklyn Heights: High-end suite ideal for adults and couples
- Clinton Hill: Solo brownstone office designed for work with children, families, and groups
Fellows receive immersive, structured training in:
- Internal Family Systems (IFS)
- Mentalization-Based Therapy (MBT)
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
- Psychodynamic psychotherapy
Compensation
This is a full-time (35 hrs/week), one-year, W-2 employee position designed to support fellows in completing their New York State licensure hours while receiving robust training, supervision, and mentorship across clinical and non-clinical domains.
- $75 per clinical hour + additional earning potential
- Clinicians may earn supplemental income for clinical work performed beyond the base expectations at a competitive per-session rate.
- Compensation reflects a total commitment of approximately 35 hours per week, which includes:
- Up to 15 weekly clinical hours
- Weekly individual and group supervision (2 - 4 hours)
- Time for research, writing, training, teaching, and administrative activities (10-16 hours)

We’re looking for clinicians who:
- Hold or are eligible for a New York State limited permit
- Have experience with or strong interest in working with LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent clients
- Work from a trauma-informed, integrative, and affirming clinical lens (e.g., IFS, DBT, psychodynamic)
- Are committed to liberation-based, anti-oppressive care
- Are excited to contribute to a community-driven, inclusive, and collaborative group practice
